“Elizabeth” is one of those very special vessels. The BCC is an iconic vessel. She always attracts a compliment in every harbor and people know the design, and describe it as "stout", " the prettiest boat in the harbor" and "the perfect small voyager".
The hull was laid in 1989, and the boat finished in 1990. She is hull #91 built under the guidance of Sam L Morse himself, and is factory finished. Her original owner was a doctor from Texas who didn't sail her very much. The second owner spent many years getting her ready for a grand world cruise, but sadly didn't live to fulfill his dream. During the period from 1998 to 2007 the boat was stored on the hard in TX where after 3 years of drying, the bottom was stripped and an epoxy barrier coat applied. Her electrical system was completely rewired and expanded to include an inverter and battery monitor. During that time she also received a new mast, new bowsprit, new max-prop, and new holding tank.
In 2008 I bought her, brought her to the east coast and finished off the refit with plans to sail far. Upgrades included: new standing rigging, six new chainplates, new Awl Grip, or new Bristol Finish everywhere. I added solar panels, a wind generator, tiller pilot, second anchor, new radar, and many other nice touches that make this truly a perfect boat for hardcore offshore sailing AND living aboard on the hook. Most recent additions are a new dodger, new interior cushions, new fresh water pump on engine, new mixing elbow at exhaust, new head hoses and new porthole gaskets!
Elizabeth has been on the go for most of the past 3 years, and has cruised the entire east coast, the Bahamas, and in the summer of 2011 she circumnavigated Newfoundland while filming a documentary about the voyage called One Simple Question, which is planned for release in June 2012. Check out that project here.
I am selling her only because my partner and I are consolidating to one boat, and we'd like that boat to be "new" for both of us. So we are looking for a boat that the two of us can call "ours". This is a hard thing to do, because the BCC has always been my dream boat.
Things I love about the BCC that make her easy and safe to sail in ALL conditions:
• Unbelievably wide side decks
• Access to the mast winches from the deck
• High bulwarks, that drain FAST
• Small but comfortable cockpit
• 4 good sea berths
• Massive storage spaces below that hold WAY more then you need.
• Large tankage, all centerline
• Long waterline for deck length, she keeps up with 35 footers easily!
Things I love about Elizabeth in particular that make her a great buy for you:
• Solar and wind power to provide all the power you will need, I never run the engine just to charge
• Lots of new stuff in the last 2 years like standing rigging, refrigeration, batteries, dodger, fresh water colling pump, head hoses, and INTERIOR CUSHIONS!!!
* Lots of rebuilt stuff like: the head (a nasty job indeed), the monitor,
alternator, raw water pump.
• Single handing ready: tiller pilot and monitor windvane
• Full suit of sails for any condition: light air and storm
• All LED bulbs EVERYWHERE = expensive but so worth it.
• Powerful inverter/charger. I love to vacuum on board in those hard to sweep places!
